Whoops, it's been nearly a year
written • read time: approx. 2minUhh, hi. Sorry it's been so long! Been up to stuff. Not a whole lot, not a little either. I guess this is like a year in review?
Highlights of my 2023
- February
- Emailed Phil Elverum (of the Microphones) asking abt the drum machine he used on A Crow Looked At Me and he responded! It's a Wurlitzer Sideman that he sampled and "built [his] own beats from it by manually playing the sounds." Just goes to show the power of sending someone a friendly email.
- March
- Got a nasty combo of mononucleosis and strep throat within 10 days of each other. I was dying. Keep this in mind, it'll come back later.
- Had a job interview to work at another Panera Bread. Went well, I knew the GM so it wasn't too difficult. Was told to send an email when I was ready and it got caught by a spam filter and went unseen for months.
- April
- Birthday!
- Released Hagoromo ℞, a little electronic-experimental-IDMish thing made in Renoise
- May
- Bought House of Leaves and started reading it. Still need to pick it back up and finish it. Great book, though.
- June
- Released Ninety-Six Inches of Heat Shrink, an 11-minute noise track originally part of a compilation
- Started my long, painful journey of trying to learn Riichi Mahjong in order to 100% Yakuza Kiwami
- July
- Finally started that job I interviewed for in March
- August
- Bought a used Tascam Portastudio 424 mkIII. Potential write-up in the works, although this thing was far more used than I expected when I bought it and it's been in a perpetually half-apart state ever since. :/
- September
- Mostly just preparing for my boyfriend Frankie coming to visit!!!
- October
- Frankie!!!!! aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!
- Submitted my music to a little local artist spotlight thing my library was running and... got rejected
- November
- Got the updated COVID shot
- Still had Frankie!!!!!!!!
- December
- Went to an ENT and got the ok to get my tonsils removed!
- Said goodbye to Frankie :(
- Started dicking around with PedalPCB kits
- January
- Got a drumset!
- Had to fight with insurance for a bit but ended up getting my tonsils removed! Still recovering at the time of writing.
So yeah. Not too bad a year.
